From Rock Stars to Text Stars: TextUs Debuts on the Inc. 5000 at #573

We’re extremely excited to announce that TextUs debuted on the Inc. 5000 list at #573, making us the fastest-growing text messaging platform in the country.

As you probably know, this huge honor is given to the small businesses that achieve the most impressive growth trajectory over a three-year period. TextUs grew 886% from 2015-2017, earning over $2.4M annually. And we’re on track to double our growth again in 2018.

We didn’t set out to found a tech startup. I started my career in the music business, working alongside artists like Sting, the Samples, and the Dave Matthews Band. And our co-founder Andrew designed album covers and merch for artists like 3OH!3, STS9, and The String Cheese Incident.

So, when we joined forces to create TextUs in 2013, we wanted to bring that rebellious rockstar spirit to the startup world. We wanted to push back against the idea that outreach for business had to be formal, stuffy, impersonal.

Back then, salespeople and recruiters were texting from their personal cell phones instead of making cold calls and sending out boring email campaigns. And their messages were similar to those sent to family and friends: brief, casual, engaging. Real.

We saw that the business world was ready to start communicating on more human terms.

It’s not just the off-the-charts response rates that makes texting for business so appealing. It’s that it helps us cut through the jargon and get out from underneath the mountain of meaningless spam. It helps us start the real conversations that actually move the needle in business.

As excited as we are about making the Inc. 5000, we aren’t a team that’ll be satisfied sitting on our laurels. Stay tuned here for the next big thing in communication. Our upcoming features will have our clients celebrating the death of the cold calls and stale email drip campaigns.

We created TextUs to help people connect faster. But the way it’s changed business communication is beyond what we’d imagined, and our growth is proof that business texting is here to stay.
